United Therapies Event - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) - Tuesday 24th October 2017 from 7.00pm until 8.30pm

United Therapies Event - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) - Tuesday 24th October 2017 from 7.00pm until 8.30pm

Presented by Chris Lewis

I trained at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute in Nottingham undergoing their 4 year MSc course from 2012 - 2016. I have an MSc in Person Centred and Experiential Psychotherapy validated by Staffordshire University.  This is a Level 7 qualification. I have full clinical registration with the UKCP and am an individual member of the BACP.

My Experience
I have considerable experience in counselling adults, both women and men and have worked with clients on a wide variety of issues and difficulties.  I have specialised experience in dealing with clients working through loss and bereavement and clients with mental health difficulties. I particularly work with men who have anger management issues and use various methods (talking / drawing etc.) to help.

Workshop synopsis:

I shall be helping the group to consider together what the person-centred approach (my own modality) has to offer clients who present with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) using specifically two examples from my own client work.

First, we will consider some issues pertaining to the Medical and Therapeutic models, how each are necessary and how they can complement each other. Then we will briefly look at what ADHD is and some of the specific difficulties clients presenting with it have before going on to consider my first case study working with a 16-year-old boy with ADHD who had been excluded from school because of his angry behaviour.

What risks did I take and how did I manage them? How did I make the connection which enabled the client to move from silence to full engagement?  I will then invite the group to share from their own experiences of working with clients who have ADHD before considering my second case study of a 74-year-old man with ADHD.

Healing Trauma through the Body/mind System using Lifespan Integration Therapy

For the past six years Lifespan Integration, or LI as it’s known, has offered me a profound way of working with my clients that has revolutionized my practice.

LI works to improve and heal poor mental health, focusing on the body and mind simultaneously. It restores integration of self through connecting past fragmented parts or split off ego states through time to the current self. It does this gently and without re traumatising, with the attention of well attuned therapists in a directive way. LI can treat early years trauma, attachment disruption, big T and little t traumas, abuse (especially neglect), relationship difficulties, and difficulties in mental health.

As a Dramatherapist I was drawn to Lifespan Integration due to the way it uses active imagination, body mindfulness, attunement and neural biology. I am continually fascinated by the way this extraordinary method helps clients to ‘knit together’ their neural systems, offering a contained way to engage with, and within, themselves.

In this workshop I shall be sharing what LI is and some of the extraordinary ways it helps to heal through the use of the timeline. In particular, I’ll be focusing on the importance of working with the body and the mind in healing trauma. I like to work in a creative, personable and inclusive way, so I hope you’ll join me, and each other, for this workshop.

Kim Barlow-Miles

After a successful business career in senior management, I took an opportunity to retrain as a Humanistic Person-centred Psychotherapist at The Sherwood Psychotherapy Institute, Nottingham.

I graduated with MA Distinction in 2004 ,and gradually developed a private practice, including my own Employee Assistance Programme for staff at  Bilborough  6th Form College. I went on to complete the Diploma in Supervision course at Sherwood, and expanded my clinical practice to offer supervision. When an opportunity arose at Sherwood, I studied CBT and achieved a Post-graduate Certificate.

Since 2011 I have been a BACP accredited counsellor/psychotherapist.

In 2012, I started my EMDR training, completing the modules in 2013. I decided to work towards accreditation in this treatment in 2016 and am now an Accredited Practitioner.
