James Hawes - Synergy Counselling:
Hello and welcome. I am an experienced therapist supporting clients with anger management difficulties, relationship issues, anxiety and a variety of other issues which are highlighted below. I have worked successfully with hundreds of clients from various backgrounds including Nurses, CEO's, plumbers, engineers, plasterers, accountants, doctors, professional sportsmen, businessmen and women, students, MD's and hairdressers.
Modern life can be hectic and stressful, stretching mind, body and spirit to breaking point. The result of this pressure can often make us feel out of sync or disjointed causing dis-ease and unhappiness. With my experienced and unique approach I seek to provide the right conditions to help people make sense of what is happening in their inner world enabling them to gain greater acceptance, control and emotional regulation. An important aspect of my work is seeking to support the client to increase their ‘emotional fitness’ by toning up emotional muscles that may have being dormant for many years. During this work clients find themselves beginning to feel more connected, whole and mentally fit.
"Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony" Mahatma Gandhi
I am experienced at working with people who are:
- EXPERIENCING RELATIONSHIP DIFFICULTIES (e.g. forming intimate relationships, trusting others, giving love and receiving love, letting go, struggling to establish and sustain satisfying relationships).
- GRAPPLING WITH IDENTITY ISSUES ( e.g. Low self-image and self esteem, lacking confidence, defensiveness, constant comparisons with others, fearfulness, self-conscious).
- FEELING GENERALLY LOW (e.g. “things just don’t seem right”, mood swings, indecisiveness, feeling stressed and anxious, procrastination, feeling stuck, depression).
- LACKING MOTIVATION IN LIFE (e.g. feeling flat, lacking direction, low energy or vitality, uncertain, self-doubt, passiveness, self-harm and suicidal thoughts, self-sabotage, depression).
- NUMB (e.g. out of touch with feelings, body or core being, feeling ungrounded).
- STRUGGLING WITH ANGRY OR VIOLENT BEHAVIOUR (e.g. frustration, moods, bullying, abuse, shouting and verbal outbursts, tension, resentment, obsession, a feeling of being out of control or powerless, hitting things or people, needing anger management).
- DEALING WITH GRIEF OR LOSS (e.g. rejection, death of a loved one, trauma, illness, fertility issues).
- WORKING THROUGH LIFE TRANSITIONS (e.g. mid-life crisis, doubts about values, changes to personal circumstances, locality change, a sense of feeling lost).
- FINDING THE WORKPLACE DIFFICULT (e.g. bullying, confidence issues, lack of motivation, addiction to work, stress).
- AWARE OF SEX AND SEXUALITY CONCERNS (e.g. sexual identity, body awareness, gender issues, sexual dysfunction including premature ejaculation, impotence, delayed ejaculation, or experiencing a lack of interest in sex, performance anxiety, loss of passion and sexual arousal).

Julie Barnes - Counsellor, Counselling Supervisor, Facilitator :
Julie Barnes is a human relations consultant and facilitator, supporting people in their personal and professional development and in working collaboratively with others.
With a background in social care research, counselling and strengths based change, I am curious about what helps people learn, grow and unlock their potential. What helps us to be the best we can possibly be as professionals, as leaders and as people? How can we do more of this - at work, at home and in all parts of our lives?
Building on the principles of person centred working, appreciative inquiry and whole person learning, I support individuals and groups in:
- exploring their strengths and greatest potential;
- discovering their passions and future direction,
- tackling the obstacles that get in their way and
- creating and sustaining the changes they want to see.
Working 1:1 and/or in groups, I encourage people to work in the way that best suits them, being creative within a supportive and accepting environment. We co-create the space to do our best work and take the time to reflect and learn. This is a space for exploring and learning, appreciating your strengths and successes, and figuring out your next moves. Building on your strengths and learning new skills to achieve even your wildest dreams.
I am a qualified person centred counsellor and supervisor ( www.julie-barnes.co.uk ), and a trained and experienced appreciative inquiry facilitator ( www.appreciativeinquiry.co.uk ). I also work with radical, peer based, whole person learning as an Associate at the Oasis School of Human Relations ( www.oasishumanrelations.org.uk ).
I am a trained civil celebrant, helping families to create personal funerals for their loved ones that reflect their beliefs, and to which they contribute in ways that are right for them.
At the Bay Centre, I work as a Supervisor for Counsellors, Trainers and other Professional people who want a supportive, reflective space in which to review and develop their professional practice. I see the value of supervision in supporting practitioners to be at their best, taking care of themselves and their clients, fulfilling high standards of professional practice and exploring the issues and experiences that inevitably arise, in a non-judgemental, non-directive environment.

Koren Harris, BSc (Hons) Counsellor & Psychotherapist (Registered MBACP)
Through counselling I will offer you a safe, welcoming space to be heard, where your doubts, fears, anxieties and vulnerabilities can be shared, acknowledged and respected in a confidential, empathic and supportive environment.
As a Humanistic & Integrative counsellor, I see people as whole beings, consisting of mind, body, emotions and spirit and I choose to explore the whole of you as a person, focusing on understanding your life and experiencing from your unique viewpoint, without preconceived judgements and paying attention to the immediate here and now of your life in an empathic and respectful manner.
I offer both short term counselling to work through a specific issue or psychotherapy, a longer term therapy to allow the exploration of deeper issues.
Together we can explore how difficulties manifest themselves in the concrete details of your life. The issues that confront you take place within the wider context of the whole of your life, and it is from these details of daily life that we will look to draw resources, skills and strategies to help you find coping mechanisms.
My overall aim is to enable you to develop a deeper insight into yourself and, through the experience of the genuine relationship we develop, help you to find a new way to be in the world.
Finding the right counsellor is so important and I invite you to call and ask any questions to decide if you feel I might be the right counsellor for you. If you feel I might be, we can arrange for you to come for an initial face to face consultation, where you are still under no obligation. This is where we can see how we are together and whether we both feel that we could develop an on-going therapeutic relationship.
